Volunteer at the Jail

Thank You for Your Interest in Volunteering with the SLC Metro Jail!

To ensure a smooth application process, please follow the steps below carefully:

Step 1: Fill Out the Application

Complete the attached volunteer application form in full.
Security Access Application

Step 2: Provide Identification

Attach a copy of your Driver’s License or ID to your application.

Step 3: Submit Your Application & Select a Security Training Date

All volunteers must complete annual security training before beginning service.
When submitting your application, include your preferred training date and time in your email.
Email your signed application (including all required documents from Steps 1-2) to ca.service.ut@gmail.com.

Security Training Schedule & Locations:

1st Tuesday of each month at 9:00 AM
Salt Lake County Oxbow Jail
3148 S 1100 W, Salt Lake City, UT 84119

3rd Thursday of each month at 5:00 PM
Salt Lake County Oxbow Jail
3148 S 1100 W, Salt Lake City, UT 84119

Step 4: Confirmation of Application Receipt

The jail liaison will confirm receipt of your application and your selected training date.

Step 5: Shadow a C.A. Meeting

After completing security training, the jail liaison will schedule your shadowing session at a Community Activity (C.A.) meeting inside the jail.
Plan to shadow at least two meetings before being assigned to a pod.

Step 6: Assignment to a Pod
Once shadowing is complete, the jail liaison will assign you to a specific pod and give you a designated day and time for your volunteer service.

Service Commitment & Availability

Volunteers must commit to at least one year of service.

Current openings: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM.
